Bilingual language control in production and comprehension
A longstanding issue in psycholinguistic research on bilingualism concerns the nature of the mechanisms used to select the appropriate language when producing speech, and the mechanisms used to minimize cross-language interference during comprehension. In the literature on bilingual language production, the activation and selection of words in a given language is constrained by a process known as language control (e.g., Green, 1998). In this project, we seek to determine the extent to which the mechanisms involved in language control in production are also involved in controlling other language activation during comprehension.
